A dog saved her owner – who hurt his leg at home in rural Washington state, fell and couldn’t get up for hours – by walking to a road, sitting in the middle of it until a local sheriff’s deputy stopped, and leading the officer to him, according to authorities.

Gita’s ability to be “a good girl and true hero” in her 84-year-old owner’s moment of need after his injury at their cabin on 25 September led to her “saving his life that day”, the Stevens county sheriff’s office said in a statement.

“The loyalty and heroism of our furry friends never cease to amaze us,” the agency added.

Most amazing part is the cop didn’t shoot him.

My guess? She found the first person that would follow her and ran back home.

Dogs are more or less bred to key into human emotions and respond.

Virtually all dogs would know something is wrong, and many are smart enough to know they can’t do anything and to go get someone who can.

Is it impressive? Sure. Especially if they had to break out of a house they normally couldn’t.

Yeah I think it’s amazing. That’s a lot of logic from an animal. They have to figure out multiple things in succession to complete the objective, and even recognizing the objective is impressive on its own.

What a good girl! If I were hurt at home, my dog would interfere with any attempts to come to my aid; she doesn’t trust anyone who comes into the house even if I introduce them to her… it took her most of a year to warm up to my roommate.
