Yes, but what about [single political issue here that Trump is as bad or worse on]?

Clearly this means we should vote for [candidate least likely to win but most likely to split the vote of the non-fascist party]!

        I don’t think I was selfish before … Just ignorant and/or sheltered.

I don’t think I disagree with your point, but the messaging is unlikely to convert many non voters.

        • I’m just yelling at the choir on Lemmy, I believe. With my actual friends, especially married ones with daughters who say this stuff, I approach it differently. “You always tell me you disdain deadbeat dads, but not voting is another form of failing your daughter. You should be a champion for her rights man, not sitting on the sidelines trying to play nice with ‘both sides.’”

I can’t believe how apolitical I was before our daughter was born. I mean I’m not even in the US or a man but Jesus fucking Christ having kids makes you so invested into everything that you cannot not be political. It’s not even a real choice unless you are, as you phrase it, a deadbeat parent.

It seems obvious, but half the country thinks Harris controls weather machines and hits Florida with hurricanes for some reason. They show up and vote, because they believe this nonsense deeply.

Please acknowledge the threat and act accordingly. If you are in a swing state, please vote for the rest of us. Your vote matters so very much.

It’s actually pretty close to half. According to Pew polls of people in the US, (not just voters or likely voters), about 40% identify as right of center. About 35% identify as left of center. The other 25% identify as moderates or independents.

there was an interview where a woman said something to the effect of “they’re controlling the weather and letting the hurricane hit red districts because they can’t rig the election otherwise”. like yeah hacking motherfucking weather is somehow easier than hacking ballots.

Then there are tens of millions of people who cannot complain about what happens next. Death of democracy in the USA ? “Well I didn’t vote for them” Wife/mother/sister/cousin/friend died due to pregnancy related complications? “well I didn’t vote for them” Etc.etc.

There is never a party you 100% agree with. If there is then you are probably guilty of blindly following. Your job as a voter is to express your opinion whether by writing to your representative, protesting or simply voting. Then hold them to account when they don’t follow through or do something you don’t like.

Don’t let them tell you what you want. Tell them what you want.

Isn’t revising your positions when you get more information or change your morals a good thing? I hate the villainization of changing your views. It’s such a childish understanding of the world where that’s a bad thing. It’s probably part of why our society is so divided now. We’ve used “flip-flopping” as an insult, so anyone who ever admits they did something wrong or changed their opinion must be a bad person. In reality the opposite is true. Admitting fault and growing as a person is a virtue that should be rewarded.

If Harris started saying “from the river to the sea” at her rallies, she’d drop 10 points overnight. If she was still for a ban on fraking, she’d lose Pennsylvania by 10 points. Cheney is really a waste of energy but a non- factor.

I don’t. I want us to cease funding offensive weapons, while still helping to fund the Iron Dome and to defend Isreal if they are attacked. That’d lose her 20 points in the polls because being nuanced would just piss off both sides, especially moderates. She would need real political capital to do so, and I hope that’s her play once elected. It’s obvious she can’t show her cards on this till elected. Do I like the country’s political balls being held by AIPAC? No. But it’s the reality we live in.

Being against genocide in Gaza is a populist statement and position. So are things like sensible regulations and remembering what happened in Flint, Michigan. This whole, “you must either be for genocide or an antisemite” claim you got going on isn’t a good look.

And no one has done the polling in the Harris camp… the first priority is to protect our democracy. We won’t be able to do anything about helping the Palestinians if Trump is elected. But I am sure you’ll be happy you stuck to your moral high horse when millions of undocumented are put in camps themselves if the Felon wins along with when so many other atrocities start up here on US soil. News Flash, there are other elections that happen in the US every year that are more influential and important for national issues than the presidency.

Maybe take your weird hatred of the failure-of-the-democratic-party-not-being-as-progressive-as-you-want energy and focus that on:

    • getting local city councilors, mayors and county clerks etc. elected who represent your political ideology,
    • getting state legislators and other officials elected who represent your political ideology,
    • getting judges elected (where applicable) who understand the codified and written law and are willing to execute it as written,
    • maybe even (SHOCK) getting congresspeople elected who match your political ideology.

I know this might be hard to understand, but there are a myriad of elected officials that comprise our federal system and focusing on THE PRESIDENCY alone will never make anything meaningfully change.

And for anyone who skews even the least bit toward NOT WANTING FACISM to take hold in this country of The United States of America, just fucking vote for Kamala Harris you stupid asshole.

Because the post is romanticizing Harris. It lists all of these negative qualities that Trump has that doesn’t list any that she and Trump share. And that’s okay, but if that’s your advertisement, then be careful that you don’t alienate potential voters.

Many people expect that career politicians have a checkered past and possibly support some policies that we personally dislike, and if you try to frame someone as being angelic, which this poster did by contrast, your message may be considered basically dishonest.
