BuyCanadian was a fantastic subreddit but I couldn’t find anything with that name on this instance, I was just curious if there was a community about it on another instance

Funny you should ask. I just saw this pop up, I guess I logged into Lemmy just as you posted this. I’ve got one made, it’s at the Lemmy world instance though, since that’s where I set up my account. The link is https://lemmy.world/c/buycanadian in case anyone is curious

The link worked for me on the website and web app, but Mlem said it didn’t support the link yet and Memmy refused to interact with it at all

Here is a link that should work relative to your instance. I think? Try it and let me know if that worked for you.

Frankly the community here isn’t big enough to start breaking up into niche sub-interests.

I’d say just post here whatever you would there, and eventually you can create that community once traffic increases.

I think that’s a chicken/egg problem. Could be better to create it right away so users find a diversity of communities.

I tend to agree with @[email protected] that we have likely not reached a critical mass where this community is active enough that people feel the need to use more niche Canada-adjacent communities. That said, my strategy has been to pepper the more niche communities with content in the same way as the main Canadian community so that when people do feel the need to look for them, there is something there for them to glom on to and participate with.

It seems to be working. All the more niche subs I take an interest in are growing and have some level of interaction. Not quite enough to snowball into self generating content quite yet, but as this sub grows, so too will those.
