Currently it seems we are dealing with many people that think we’re either associated with Brian Lunduke (controlled opposition / nutjob), or the sub by the same name on reddit. We’re also still growing. At this point articles and such aren’t worth writing / publishing here so much as they won’t have much reach under the current climate. I’d encourage people considering writing to hold off if it’s not a current events thing.

We will also not allow blatant evangelizing, advertising, promotion of Linux or totally off topic crap (like Windows sucks posts).

Memes get attention and are good for advertising the sub. They send a simple message that can lead to discussion. -They’re also a hobby for me.

    I ran through all of the posts. Literally the community’s entire timeline. I’ve found four that wasn’t just an edited meme or stock photo, and none that invited an honest, good-faith discussion of why Linux sucks.

    Don’t get me wrong, there are lots of areas where Linux and the Linux ecosystem suck. As a Linux user myself, and as an admin with a dozen outdated Ubuntu systems foisted upon me, I’ll be the first to point and laugh. At this point I’ve stopped watching sitcoms because nothing compares to the wayland development dumpster fire, for example.

    But this ain’t it, chief. Most of the posts here fall into the same category as The Big Bang Theory: trying to emulate a culture in order to mock and caricaturize it, but without understanding the culture, and falling flat on its face. Don’t kid yourself: this is a meme sub, and not a particularly funny one either. The moment you stop posting them, engagement will drop like a rock.

    But what is it?

    Shit on Desktop Linux and its evangelists here

    Does this include shitting on all the other distros that are so much worse than the one I use?
    Or the clusterfuck you get when you try to imitate Active Directory on Linux (not a desktop system)?

    Are Linux users and admins welcome to shit on Linux here, or is it strictly for others to shit on Linux users?

      We don’t have to know you’re a ‘linux user’. If you start out a post ‘as a Linux user’ - it’s going to be more scrutinized or likely to be removed for example. Most people here on either side of the fence likely have Linux experience. If your intention is to promote Linux in anyway here, you shouldn’t feel welcome. It’s not that I want an echo chamber, its that we have enough Linux propaganda echo chambers out there already (even infesting Windows subs on reddit) and want a more welcoming community for criticism than people having to deal with evangelists and their shenanigans twisting the direction and vision of the community.

      As you may have noticed, I’ve thanked people for posting solutions to Linux issues and even updooted them myself (evident on the spelling meme with the capital D for downloads). I’m generally not removing things that simply go over my head, or plain rebuttals either. If a meme is wrong or a tad excessive, I have no problem with it being pointed out (I’d even caution people from believing in memes as many use memes because they’re harder to verify for not having copy / paste-able text (I use Copyfish often for this reason)).

      Better to provide some evidence in rebuttals as I don’t like anecdotes ( like: works on my system, never crashed for me, plays all my games) being used as if they’re rebuttals to data, and other resources.
