I don’t think most people realize how dependent we are on undocumented workers. Wait until it becomes illegal to hire them and INS roundups start again. Then the carwash price goes up, the daycare closes, or the landscaper goes missing. Maybe the snow doesn’t get plowed or the restaurant prices go up because they can’t find cheap kitchen help. Construction-related companies will be decimated, and the cost of home repairs/remodeling will skyrocket. In my area, electric rates will increase because half of the crews that keep the vegetation trimmed back from the power lines are undocumented.

They’ll come for the employed undocumented workers first, because they can make it illegal to hire them, just like it used to be 50 years ago. No green card, no work.

Avocado toast in my area is cheaper and healthier than a bowl of cereal with milk.

        At least before tariffs hit.

Well yeah. Packaged foods and animal products are expensive (and should be).

          Try oats and an apple/banana.

European here so maybe I’m confused, isn’t avocado toast the emblem of the snob left winger that trumpists hate?

Making them less accessible, while idiotic, seems rather coherent on their side…

The avocado toast meme is from Boomers shitting on Millennials because Millennials are broke due to the Boomers fucking the country and they had to come up with some stupid thing the Millennials must be spending all their money on. It’s not political in origin.

Can’t possibly have anything to do with the decades of union-busting, corporate deregulation, etc. no, it’s the avocado toast.

Actually it was a millennial couple buying homes with their parents money saying it about other millennials, but it represented the boomer mindset to a tee and represented that privileged out of touch understanding of the world.

What’s funny is that this kind of notion predates avocado toast by a lot. I remember people lecturing others in the 90s about how Starbucks is keeping you from being a millionaire. I’m sure it was some other “sin” before Starbucks before that…

Well, it’s the combo of that Netflix subscription, a smart phone, and the avocado toast…
