    Man, I feel this sometimes. I watch my friends and people I follow online consume and buy so much stuff like it’s their job, and I feel like I’m doing it “wrong” as a, quote-unquote, “fan/nerd”. I know it’s bullshit, but the pull is there, and I hate that it exists. I do like to support creators where I feel it’s appropriate, but at a reasonable rate.

      Companies have definitely realized nerds have a lot of money to spend. I tend to avoid the culture, because I don’t need more stuff. To each their own, but I’ve never understood the appeal of e.g. funko pops. I think in right wing slang, these people are referred to as “coomers”. I don’t know of better terminology.
