I put them back on after a bit of time, when my feet return to being too cold. I repeat this whole process throughout the evening whenever it feels necessary.

Me too. And then switch sides every hour or so.
my problem is. bare feet = cold. socks (even wool) = cold. slippers with bare feet = wet and cold. slippers and socks = cold and wet.
Have you tried a blanket?
I sometimes use a hot water bottle for my feet.
I’ve been wearing Crocs with socks. Last year’s Christmas slippers were too small
I’m starting to understand my grandfathers logic as I get older … it’s winter here, minus 15 outside and I perpetually wear two pair of heavy socks and slippers.
