I downloaded my entire reddit activity and have been going through it slowly, changing all my comments to links back to themselves. Today I got this:

You can do better than that, I was perma-banned from all of Reddit LOL!

And for the absolute dumbest reason no less, I was banned by admins for mentioning that Elon Musk and his Boring Company made roughly 20,000 “Not a Flamethrower” devices, which actually are flamethrowers.

I was banned for stating known true facts 😂🤣

    Fuck Spez

I got banned for saying I think it’s always a good idea to punch Nazis, like grandpa and LT Aldo Raine taught me.

For the record, I still think it’s a good idea and Huffman can eat shit

I’m not here to suggest harm to anyone, but I’m not against you either.

May I suggest just letting it go and be a friend here on Lemmy?

I can be your friend as long as you’re not a Nazi. That seems like a pretty low bar.

If ‘nazi’ was ever a ‘bar’, I just threw it out of the field into the swamp. We’re cool, as long as the bears don’t attack us…

That’s a stupid reason for banning people, but weren’t those just propane torches? You can buy one at any hardware store and tape it to a nerf gun to make a similar toy. While they do “throw flames”, I wouldn’t really call those flamethrowers, which usually utilize liquid fuel and are actually weapons.

The flame is something like an inch thick, around or maybe even over 6 inches long, and the thing actually does look similar to a Nerf gun.

You really think that kids won’t get their hands on these things and do something stupid?

We were doing stupid shit with regular propane torches as kids. Doesn’t mean those were flamethrowers tho.

Did you know flamethrowers are actually legal in 47 out of the 50 states, last I checked anyways? They’re considered as work tools to melt tar for roofing and road work and such.

But yes, any which way you spin it, it’s a really stupid reason to get banned.

I guess that depends on your definition of a flamethrower. To me, a flamethrower is primarily a weapon. And what you are describing is a roofing torch. Googling it now, I can’t seem to find anyone calling them “roofing flamethrowers”. Flame gun — sometimes — but never actually a flamethrower.

So the legality is probably an issue with not being specific enough with the tool/weapon differentiation. I don’t think actual flamethrowers should be legal.

Have you ever used a flamethrower?

I have, to kill an ant bed next to a pine tree. Flame like 6 feet long…

California laws are different though, they literally had to title the device as “Not a Flamethrower” to get past California laws.

Any tool can be a weapon if you have the right mindset.

Street numbers and signage are censored too. There was a driveway off it, but the whole location had already been shown extensively on a youtube video that was the subject of the thread and had thousands of views already, so it wasnt as if it was information that wasnt very widely available and public already

To my knowledge, you can edit comments after being banned. When I was on Reddit, before I deleted my account, I had been banned from one subreddit I participated in pretty regularly when a new mod joined and needed to be quickly removed for abuse. I was banned mid-discussion, but I was still able to go back and edit my comments in that subreddit.

I recently got a shower of notifications for new messages on old threads. Like 7-10 year old threads.

Weird thing is that these comments where posted that long ago.

Best I can tell is that they used shreddit or deleted their comments, and reddit just reinstated their original comments.

Essentially wiping your comments in a patternistic way won’t do anything.
