How can I get a multi character chat setup such that all the characters involved develop long term memories. and further get them all to share a common lore file.

yes, i was hoping it was saved per character so i could take the characters out on a side quest where the secondary characters becomes the main character and develop memories that are not privy to the first main character… not sure if this is even a thing, if they share memories i just would not want the main character in chat1 to react in a way that comes from memories with the side character in chat2. not a big deal as i said, i was mostly just thinking out oud and wondering how it all works under the hood. I do however have a new question based on this, can i remove a side character from the chat some how? and if so can i add them back in later and all the lore / memories / what ever will remember them just based on the character name? and if this is true, if i made a second character with the same name but radically different personality, and load them in the chat what would happen?

I don’t think ‘memories’ are specific to one character. It is specific to the ‘thread’ and is tied to the ‘main’ character but not actually in their perspective; they are short statements of events/scenes that happened on the thread, so all of the characters that are in the thread contributes to the memories.

For example, here are some memories that I have on one of my threads (although this is a thread from before the Memory is reworked so might not be accurate on how the new memories are being generated). Ares is the ‘user’ character, ‘Lady Emerys’ is the ‘main’ thread character, ‘Clayhead’ is an ‘invited’ character.

      1. Lady Emrys and Ares received a message about the enemy’s flanking maneuver.
      2. Ares was ordered to lead his men north to a small clearing near the treeline, while Lady Emrys was to hold off the enemy at a nearby pond.
      3. Reinforcements were called in to help Ares’ position once the message reached the command tent.
      4. Lady Emrys and Clayhead managed to reach the pond, but were pinned down by enemy forces.
      5. Lady Emrys and Clayhead engaged the enemy in close combat at the pond while Ares’ men fought against the main force.
      6. Ares and his men were outnumbered, but managed to hold their ground for a time.
      7. Reinforcements began to arrive at Ares’ position to help turn the tide of the battle.
      8. The battle was ongoing, with both sides suffering casualties.

can i remove a side character from the chat some how? and if so can i add them back in later and all the lore / memories / what ever will remember them just based on the character name? and if this is true, if i made a second character with the same name but radically different personality, and load them in the chat what would happen?

Memories mostly involves the character’s names, at least those that I’ve seen (shown above), so yes, if you don’t have them reply for a little bit, and their name is added in one of the memories, then you invite the same character with a different personality, it might change the response of other characters, but also it might not. I haven’t tried it myself so I can’t say for sure.

You can use the same lore file for each character. Sadly, only the main thread character gets memories. it is intended that way so that each thread has a separate memory, and not that the character is saving the memory. However, if you are using multiple characters in a thread, the other character’s interactions would be saved on the thread memory as well.
