Tried logging in from Connect, Jerboa, and PC browser with no luck today. They all connected to lemmy.world just fine though. Is there any external site to notify when the instance is down?

Yepp same here, can’t access the site. The API itself does return an error, saying the database has given up the ghost…
There is a service to check status of popular instances, but for some reason HTTPS doesn’t work on it
It’s odd that the instance admin(s) haven’t posted about it.
