One of the best advice I got during my therapy sessions is that:“Just because a thought occurred in your head doesn’t mean that you have to accept it as truth. Our minds are well-known for making stuff up.”

I usually think of lots of different possibilities but most of them aren’t good. I know that at most one can be right but what if I’m right about one of the bad ones?

Our minds are remarkably bad at estimating probabilities because they are always operating on limited information combined with high bias.

There is a certain level of arrogance with introverts in that they assume a lot of things about people without first engaging with them. I speak as one myself

Pattern recognition is very much in our DNA, it takes a lot of effort to put aside your own instincts.

Yeah but the patterns that some of us train on might just be noise validated by our own biases

I agree. We really should stop making assumptions. But, it is a skill that must be practiced. Mindfulness helped me a lot.

This is a real thing with social anxiety called “mind reading”.

This describes every “empath” I’ve ever known.

“You’re feeling angry, aren’t you?” No, ma’am, my eyebrows are naturally arched. It’s genetic.
