Condolences. Now comes the hard part - being kind to yourself and your immediate family. Which will be damned hard. Take time to process your feelings - either positive or negative. I found both. The one true purpose of funerals/memorials is that organising them helps to process those feelings. Be aware that other family members will have different feelings. The damned part is being patient with them and validating their feelings as well as your own. Don’t shortchange yourself in that department. Take whatever time you need. Sending vibes to help when the feelings ambush you. Which they will do - usually when least convenient. Been there and done that myself. I found a grief counsellor helped me a lot after my bloke died during covid. The language of grief/relief can be grimly humorous too which I found to be an unexpected bonus.

I’m really sorry. Even when you know it’s coming the death of a parent is really hard. Know that it’s OK to not be OK for a while, but that you will be OK again. We’ll all be here for you and do whatever we can to support you in our limited way.

      Thinking of you ❤️

Oh catfish. He went into palliative not long ago, right? My condolences, hugs and hope for all the next steps to be as peaceful and easy as they can be. But right now your job is just to breathe and feel whatever you have to feel for a bit.

Ah yep, used to have one of those. First smart light I ever owned. I moved to brilliant bulbs when I moved to the last place cause the genio died. Think I got it for like 5 bucks on clearance from Officeworks. I still have it in my lamp, and in the 2 big lights in my house that still have normal fittings, I put in Tapo bulbs. Including the one in the shitter! Imagine telling someone from the 20th century you can change the colour of the lightbulb in the dunny!

It’s a chapter about honeyeaters and habititat. The pics are different flower shapes they get nectar from.

The subject I’m doing is “Backyard Biodiversity”, about primarily about creating habitat in your garden for a range of native species.

Yeah… there’s soap powder residue on my cutlery so I’m having to rinse everything under the tap again before use. Hopefully it’s only because it was in the rapid cycle but there’s nowhere to put rinse aid in this machine and it’s not very convenient to load. I’m also having to put things on a dish towel or dish rack to finish drying.

Buyers regret. Like I am happy the dishes are getting done because it’s my hardest task but it’s also creating more fiddly little headaches. Pisses me off because of the money.

Guess I’ll use it in the meantime but will start saving up again and this time actually get something better, something I can see in person. When I get another one I can ask if anyone I know wants it or donate on Givit.

I’ll probably still have to. It’s still full of standing water for roaches because you have to keep the door open. (It’s either fully open right down to the bench or shut. You can’t just crack it.)

And I know at some point someone else is gonna use it without knowing and serve me a coffee full of soap.

I dunno, I’m tired and upset and something that was meant to help out is only aggravating me.

If drastically reducing the soap doesn’t work I’m just packing the thing right back into its box so I don’t end up drinking it

use finish liquid cleaner. Powder never fully dissolves in a benchtop. Our sheffield is twice the size of that and still fucks up on powder / tablets. Use about a third of the liquid and you’re golden.

In Albury for the night on the way back. I’ve definitely had my cup filled (but already missing being out in nature all day and all night, and physically very tired from various tasks). It’s an absolute oven outside. Thankfully the AC was running at my accom before I arrived so I’m just chilling for now (got a free upgrade to Queen, score!).

Debating whether to get a proper meal for dinner or just some ready-to-eat stuff from Woolies… Might splurge on the meal tonight and get some crackers and dip for breakfast and the rest of the drive home tomorrow.

I had a sneaky late night choc cross buns. Bleh. The ones I get from Aldi have something chocolatey inside. The woolies ones I got don’t, they just put cocoa powder into whatever mixture they used and got rid of the fruit

It’s just been Mr Woof and I at home since the middle of the week, and at first he was super duper anxious, lying near the front door, waiting for everyone else. Last night, I went upstairs to my room to check the temperature, and he started fluffing up my bed to sleep on. He’s only ever done that if my mum is in my room.

    now he's enjoying the sun

Dammit. I have a split mail on my finger. Think I made it worse after snagging it on some clothing.

Got a spplit right on the side and about my probably 2 or 3mm long.

Put a Band-Aid on it for now so I don’t make it worse.

I am looking for advice though. I was trying to look up nail glue but a bunch of them seem to have very poor reviews and also not really for split nails, I think they’re for glue on nails.

They’re all super glue. It’ll work. If it continues to split you can get an acrylic manicure on that nail so it grows past the splitting point.

Cheap super glue from coles/woolies will do. It’s about $3 for a twin pack. You’ll only need a drop, so line up all the little repair jobs you can find before the tube dries out.

Oh ok. I might duck out quickly to grab some and see if I can do a quick repair job.

Do I need to worry about putting too much glue on or getting too much of it on my nail?

Try to use as little as possible, just a drop to start with and you can always add another later if you need. It’s a pain in the bum to remove if you use too much.

You can also apply clear nail polish, stick a small torn patch of teabag paper or tissue to the wet polish over the split, and then once dry paint a few coats of polish over the top to seal it. (Drying fully in between.)

It might not be strong enough if the split is large but can provide some reinforcement while it grows out

The split is vertical from top to bottom for context.

It’s been trimmed back as far as it can go.

yeah I do that off and on, shits me up the wall.

I cut a small oversized square of teabag to go over the split, tiny lick just to make it adhere, then dop nail glue / cyanoacrylate a tiny amount on top to soak through and adhere. let it dry, then you can trim the excess and even file it. If you do a lot of typing it will last until the split grows out

A party is a party, and whether you socialise or just lurk, it is often good to be around other people, especially when the weather is difficult to deal with.

We had an 80th here yesterday afternoon. Lunch was rotisserie Bolar Blade and roasted Pork Neck on the BBQ, accompanying salad bought by old people.

Our house has very good thermal Insulation, but very bad acoustics so within an hour it sounded like the scene from Sneakers with the geese, but much more humid.

Outside was much nicer, with the dry heat, tasty food and peace and quiet, even when some of the other guests came out to join me.

Now we have cleanup day today, but this is why we built our house. It shouldn’t take long.

We have a 1st and an 18th this year and a 21st and a 50th in 2026, and we will probably have all the minor birthday parties too!
