He argued that the FDC’s policy does not constitute a blanket ban on hormone therapy, despite evidence showing the policy effectively forces the detransition of hundreds of inmates.

Outright cruelty, but that’s the point. Nothing is gained by denying medication to those who need it. The intent is to cause misery and suffering, not rehabilitation or a return to society.

Personally, I love my life, I am so happy to be married, supported and thriving. I plan (hope) to live a long healthy life. But I have told my loved ones, if I were ever prevented from taking my hormones, then they need to consider me a suicide risk. It’s not glib or threats for attention, it’s just the grim reality is existing in my own body is prohibited then I know what it will do to me mentally.

Expect every other conservative anti-human shithole to follow suit in their state as soon as possible. These people want to ensure every trans person winds up dead.

There’s a long-standing myth in America that prisons exist to punish and then rehabilitate dangerous criminals. People consistently seem shocked to discover that these institutions exist more to cover up rampant poverty, to extort working people for their money and labor, and to inflict misery on ethnic and gendered minorities as a means of social control.

Reiyn Keohane is a 24 year old who has been in jail for over eleven years, on charges of attempted murder. This is a person convicted and sentenced to a decades-long imprisonment at the age of thirteen. She has repeatedly attempted self-castration. She has repeatedly attempted suicide. The textbook case of someone with profound mental health issues who Florida’s society has completely and utterly failed.

We really need someone to make a case for penitential reform. They’re already doing the time, you don’t have to fucking punish them more. Really, it’s Healthcare that they are with-holding and I don’t understand how that isn’t “cruel and unusual”.

In a civilized world, denying healthcare would be considered cruel and unusual punishment.

When the legal levers of change are eliminated, only the extralegal levers remain.
