I think there was a lot of doubt/denial between ESB and ROTJ if Vader was telling the truth to Luke. That’s why they needed Obi Wan to clarify it to Luke with the “certain point of view” line in Jedi. This was probably a comic from during this period to promote the movie and they used it as a selling point to validate Vader’s statements in Empire.
You’re probably right. Although try to picture Vader saying, “hi, kids!”

Well he might have given a clue as to whether or not he was Luke’s father when he said, “I am your father” in The Empire Strikes Back, but maybe some people needed it restated in Return of the Jedi for it to sink in.
