I, for one, simply don’t plan to live beyond 40.
If you’re much younger than, say, 35, it probably won’t be an issue anyway.
I would say we still have 10-20 years… 5 is a little pessimistic. /s
I don’t think I even have the luxury of choosing. I think it will be decided for me, because I am a minority under an imminent regressive violent fascist regime.
I didn’t plan to live up to 30, but here I am. And honestly don’t really see any reasons why it would be different for any other number until some major health issue.

Many ways to end up there. Falling chronically ill is an easy to understand one, even depression can leave you completely unable to get or keep a half-decent job, but many of the better-paying jobs also require some amount of physical fitness. And if you live in the US, any kind of emergency can single-handedly wipe out all of your savings.
Also spending some time in prison might do it, which often happens for bullshit charges. Or just plain old generational economic deprivation - it’s a feedback loop!
