I guess we will see what happens. With Trump and Elon in charge, it’s not like I’d be surprised if that’s their ultimate goal.

And that would make what, 3 social media companies between them?

Suddenly Zuck’s recent policy changes make sense, he caught wind of this sale and he’s indicating that he’s willing to play ball with them, while also trying to maintain the competitiveness of his own social media (his influence over public opinion).

Well it was obvious from the start that the provision that TikTok either has to sell to a US owner or be banned means that some oligarch would be buying it. I suppose the broligarchs have been competing for who will get it. Sure, maybe some in Congress care about the security aspect, but underneath, that was mostly a pretext to get support for it. Would be nice if Tiktok refuses to sell it.

Unless they just refuse to give into the pressure… Politically, it is creating a lot of anger, and if they don’t sell no one else gets the benefit

Let’s not forget, byte dance owns a large percentage of checks notes nearly everything digital. Forcing them to divest from all of corporate social media, gaming, and Disney is a bigger threat to them than losing tik tok

Whether it’s CCP influence or just business, it’s probably more strategic for them to take this loss kicking and screaming and solidify their overall position
