I’ve been wondering if there’s a decentralized, Fediverse-compatible alternative to Pinterest out there.

The idea of a federated platform for sharing and curating visual content, DIY ideas, and inspiration boards seems like it could be a great addition to the Fediverse ecosystem.

Some questions I have:

Does anyone know of an existing project that’s similar to Pinterest but Fediverse-compatible?

If not, has anyone considered developing such a platform?

What challenges might be involved?

Perhaps it could be potentially created under the Pixelfed Banner, similar to Loops?

Would there be interest in the community for a Pinterest-like service on the Fediverse?

I personally believe that this could be an exciting project, but personally, I lack the technical knowledge, energy, and time to take it on myself.

However, I’d love to hear your thoughts and see if there’s any traction for this idea.

If such a service doesn’t exist yet, maybe this post could spark a discussion or inspire someone with the right skills to consider developing it.

    @Teknevra would love to see something along those lines, I was a active user of FFFFound back in the day and would love to see an interface like that for image bookmarking

    For sure, if only out of spite for Pinterest poisoning image search results with low quality, unusable junk.

    I’d like to see actual content, with original credits and a way to credit them if it’s a repost. Repin?

    hopefully there can be one with ai banned or disabled. Pinterest feeds me SOOOO much ai generated gibberish text trash these days.

    Pinetta is under development: “A FOSS, federated, ActivityPub-enabled pinboard thingy, in the style of Pinterest.”. I don’t know anything else about it, but only discovered it on this list: delightful fediverse apps (“A curated list of server applications with support for the ActivityPub protocol (known as the fediverse) and related standards.”)

    Im fine with anything but on the whole I would like a web interface that I login on and handles whatever. The community newsgroups forum thing is all I really care about but im fine having a feed that can incorporate all kinds of things. If they are all their own seperate things thats fine to but I likely won’t be doing it.
