I dig the industrial design updates. Looks more refined, the bigger controllers will be nicer for multiplayer, and they finally fixed that terrible kick stand.

The leaked hardware specs, if real, also look promising.

    So, in summary.

    • Bigger
    • They put a USB port on top
    • The controls, where removed, don’t need the stupid plastic add on the the shoulder buttons

Nothing on specs, battery, games /etc.

    Color me unimpressed

If it doesn’t have hall effect sticks, they aren’t paying attention.

With the magnetic attachment to the main console, having hall effect joysticks would be basically impossible

Wouldn’t it only cause an interference when adding or removing a joycon? ie, when the magnetic field change isn’t from the joystick.

It depends on where the magnets are located, but I agree it’s an engineering consideration.

Also, using magnets instead of rails does mean that if you drop your switch, the joycons will go flying.

This feels more like a reaction to leaks than a full announcement.

It’s going to be wiiU all over agian. Lots of people are going to think its just a new Switch Pro model or something.

If it’s not backwards compatible idk what they’re doing.

The improvements are good though. I wish they scrapped the joypad shape all together, and the larger kickstand had me cracking up.

      This video confirmed backwards compatibility

Sony didn’t seem to confuse folks by releasing 3 black boxes in a row with different numbers on them. I don’t really see why this would.

Backwards compatibility has been confirmed for a while now.

If the WiiU had been named the Wii2, this argument would hold a lot more water.

It was the U that threw people off. A 2 is generally understood as a sequel thing.

It is backwards compatible with “most” switch games. No details yet on what most means. I’m probably thinking things like LABO and ring fit will not be compatible because of the controller size difference.

I hope we get a new Ring Fit Adventure. That game is really fun and I’ve gotten a million hours out of it (and it justified the cost of the Switch, since I was able to buy the game once and not spend a subscription or get ads for equipment I’ll use one and never use again.)

If they could somehow make one with a set of weights, I think I’d finally get biceps.
