You’re half right: it IS that, but it’s also about fascists scapegoating vulnerable minorities to scare people into thinking that they (the fascist politicians and their supporters) are the only sane ones and have to eradicate the “Others” for the sake of all that’s good and decent.
Proof positive that messaging doesn’t have to make sense or even allow for the tiniest shred of empathy in order to be effective 😮💨🤬

Trans people don’t belong in cisgender sports though for real… Not saying it to knock them just it’s not fair. Blind people also don’t belong in sighted sports. Nothing wrong with blind people either.
I know I’m going to get down voted as a transphobe but I’m very much not. I believe it’s not fair to cis women to put a trans woman on opposing team.
Believing nonsense propaganda about trans people while ignoring all the swaths of evidence disproving the propaganda does make you a transphobe, yes.
Our hyper fixation on sports, taking them deathly serious and giving them million dollar performance stakes is the problem.
They are games. Games should be fun and inclusive.
Why stop there? Let’s restrict based on color and religion too! And when hate crimes follow, they deserve it, right?

The issue itself is nuanced, unfortunately the debate is not.
Transwomen who’ve only gone through female puberty (i.e. transitioned as minors or went on puberty blockers) are going to be physically on the same level as ciswomen.
Transwomen who’ve been through both puberties are going to be pretty close to the physical abilities of the average ciswomen after a few years on estrogen, though there are some permanent effects of testosterone that will remain, like build size.
Thats to say nothing of the fact that dividing sports along gender is somewhat arbitrary to begin with, while the average female athlete may be smaller and weaker than the average male athlete, there is still plenty of overlap, and it would really make more sense to divide sports along different criteria, like weight classes or some other more fair metric.
If you think CEOs are going to places as shitty as that, you’ve got low standards 😂
