I guess, in a way it’s a good thing, since it’s a sort of zoo for corporate bootlickers, but the career-related social connections are useful. It’s just so caustically pro-business. I guess anything work-centric will inevitably become that way, regardless of how it starts.
The fact that Github and LinkedIn are both owned by Microsoft rustles my jimmies, though.
IMO the best alternative is being kind to coworkers and nurturing actual, rewarding work relationships. People you show up for will show up for you and pass along opportunities as they change workplaces.
Except when you move halfway across the country; it’s surprising to my, in such a globalized economy, how localized people’s connections are.
