TikTok themselves are blocking these users from the platform on purpose.
I discovered this after the fact
No offense but there are far too many users who are assuming this is because of the “ban”, who haven’t read the law or the bill and don’t functionally understand what’s going on. And Tik Tok themselves are taking advantage of that. Spreading misinformation (however unintentional) doesn’t help here and is actively hurting users of the platform and people who want privacy law reform.
So can we amend the title of this post to factually reflect the situation?

Why would you want this? It literally eats your time for small dopamine rushes. There is nothing good about TikTok.
Except it is completely wrong to have governments be engaging in censorship. I don’t have a lot of control but I think it is important to bypass it on a massive scale. We need to make this into a laughing stock. I would normally be against using Ticktok but censorship is far worse.
Governments are the only entities that should engage in censorship, and the ban of TikTok in the US also has nothing to do with censorship but non-compliance of court decisions.

I have to wonder if you’d have eaten Tide Pods had their consumption been made illegal instead of merely discouraged by everyone with any sense 🤔 What a doofy way to be.
While I probably wouldn’t eat tide pods I do think that unjust laws need to be protested.

Make a new account, and use a VPN because the American accounts have been flagged in Tik Tok and they already know who they are. This is literally Tik Tok disallowing US users to access it, rather than the H. R. 7521 “ban” forcing app stores to remove it from the app store. The law doesn’t remove the app from people’s devices and it doesn’t and can’t force manufacturers to do so. Tik Tok made a statement that they would remove access to US accounts if SCOTUS upheld the new law, and they have followed through on that threat. It’s not even just Tik Tok. Other apps and services owned by Tik Tok or distributed by Tik Tok are also doing this.
I’m told VPNs aren’t working by friends with accounts who’ve tried.
Yeah, you can supposedly make a new account through a browser and using an email (or an international phone # if you have one). But I’ve heard from someone living in Korea, who no longer have a US phone # on their account who is now unable to access their account, because at one time it was associated with a US phone number.
