The woes of speaker maker Sonos have raised the prospect of a takeover, but who might want to buy it? Also: iPhone SE inventory shrinks ahead of a major revamp; Apple prepares more AI for the Mac even as it removes news summaries; and the company’s former chief people officer lands at HP.

My favorite thing is when devices that require an external service to do literally anything gets bought by a giant company then shuts down.

Literally nothing better than needing to throw away a bunch of expensive gear just cause someone couldn’t make a dump truck full of cash on it anymore.

Sonos, didnt they tell all their customers to get fucked and buy new speakers because the old ones wouldn’t work again because of shitty software…even though the speakers were 100% fine and usable otherwise?

Af one point they ran an upgrade deal. Where you could “trade in” your old gear for a discount. But instead of you sending your old gear back they just remotely bricked it.

As someone who hasn’t followed them too much but was interested in buying stuff someday, thank you! I hate shady companies that seem to be doing this more and more lately… I guess from the looks of it, they may not be around much longer anyway.

Amazon doing so would suck if they made Alexa mandatory as I won’t let Alexa in my home and I also have a sonos home
