Trans people are very welcome here in western Washington. The more, the merrier! Don’t settle east of the Cascades, though.

Buy a Subaru. Never use an umbrella. Become a coffee snob.

In all seriousness, the west coast is a beautiful place, so the best thing you can do is get some good gear and a pass and go out hiking, biking, and generally explore all over.

Sadly a lot of are cities aren’t as walkable as the ones in Europe, but Seattle and Portland have a decent transit system at least.

Hah. I was at the liquor store a couple of days ago and overheard a conversation between some of the employees and a couple of customers. The employees were telling them that we don’t use umbrellas, only the tourists do. So true. Well, and some of the transplants from other states. They stick out like a sore thumb.

          Also, I have a Subaru.

What field do you work in?

If you work in tech, there are a lot of jobs available. I think we’ve still got a teacher shortage as well. And the police force is hiring aggressively in Seattle, though I doubt that’s your profession if you’re here. There’s always a shortage of restaurant workers, but they won’t be hiring someone who’s not in-state already.

I wrote up this whole reply that somehow didn’t get posted. Frustrating. Oh well.

Anyway, there are all of the big names (Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Salesforce, and whoever else) who are always hiring. I don’t have my finger on the pulse of the current small business hiring, but I know that the company which absorbed my previous employer is heavy on vulnerability management. Or at least it was. Okta. Worth looking into. Another name in the area is Tableau, but I think they have been shrinking their staff. Which is a shame. I worked there and they were a pleasant company to work for, but they are known for underpaying.

I’m sure there are lots of others, but I have been out of the industry for a couple of years now.

There are always tech companies hiring here. We’re the biggest tech area in the US after Silicon Valley.

I am fortunate enough to be able to finally get out of here to one of the bluest places later this year if things go to plan.

I am so lucky to be in a cyan state. I want to know how I can help my fellow trans folks who are trapped in states that are actively targeting them.

I wonder how many people who refused to vote for Harris on ethical grounds think we would be seeing this map if she had won.
