I wish ludusavi could handle game mods too, as a lot of games I play use mods (like stardew). Mods are essential for the saves there

Mod management is orders of magnitude more complex in comparison to managing some save files.

That’s kind of why there is no one mod manager that deals with every game ever.

Definitely lost my co-op Elden Ring save. My normal game play was saved of course.

I just cloned the existing rule for Elden Ring as a custom rule, but changed the extension to match the co-op save.

This is interesting but I’m a little confused on the use case, as your normal backups of the system would include all your game saves anyways…

You’re assuming that everyone wants to back up their system though. On my gaming PC, I would literally want just this, I couldn’t care less about everything else. For me this would be useful. Would also be nice for my Steam Deck for my GOG games.

It didn’t occur to me that people would have a dedicated PC only used for gaming lol, that’s an expensive way to do it.

Oh I do too, just everything is synched between them because I hate working on a laptop for very long.

Is your work laptop owned by you? That I would definitely understand. Mine is owned by my organization and I want nothing personal on it ever as a result. I like how I can compartmentalize work from entertainment that way.

Yeah it is. How do you manage your personal stuff like banking and everything if not on the PC?

Almost all my banking is done from my phone. It’s rare I need to sit in front of my PC to do so. But that also doesn’t need backed up, it’s all web accessible. I do download all my bank, credit card, and loan statements monthly, but I store all of that in my Proton Drive, nothing remains on my PC. I call it my gaming PC because that’s what it’s for 90% of the time, but I do use it for personal stuff too. That doesn’t really change the fact that literally nothing needs backed up aside from game saves.

Yeah, my work laptop is for all my productivity, and it is owned by my work so doesn’t cause extra expense.

Having it in one place would be useful, since games often dump their saves in a variety of weird places so it could be easily lost when setting up a new system.

I roll my own by using syncthing and then symlinking the directories etc to their actual locations.

You can backup to a cloud provider to have cloud syncing between systems, similar to Steam’s. Also, most people do not backup their systems.

I use it for when I’m finished with a game or haven’t played it in a while and want to declutter my SSD. It copies my saves and settings to my NAS and then I can just delete everything and restore it later if I want.

I used gamesave manager for the same thing in my windows days.

Why? That has completely different goals than this app. What is the point in backing up my entire Steam Deck and Gaming PC when I could have an app that’s backs up just the parts I care about and syncs between them?
