Reddit took action faster about Lemmy than they did responding to the epidemic of CSAM subs.

I left reddit because they kept resisting the removal of subs that directly used the platform to sell CSAM under the guise of a specific niche of porn which normally is legal. Direct contact with reddit to explain why it was CSAM went nowhere.

Reddit currently has an active and massive beastiality sub. They don’t allow real images, but they have comment threads with discussion and advice. Just as with r/jailbait, people post fishing for the real stuff.

omg the top comment just got deleted with over 500 upvotes

I think it was when it was edited to include specific links to Lemmy instances, instead of the join-lemmy.org website

I still see the comment on Spaduf’s profile, but it shows as deleted in the post

I think maybe the link to lemmy.world is what triggered their filter? because that was edited in

actually I think it was mander.xyz for some reason? and it doesn’t seem to happen in r/fediverse

no wait, something else is also doing it, midwest.social is also doing it, lemmy.world is clear, infosec.pub is clear, ttrpg.network is not allowed

no idea how Reddit or r/technology chose which instances to ban lol

I’m quite certain that reddit has millions of bot accounts that repost old content and leverage AI to make human sounding comments. They serve two purposes, to simulate activity and interaction, and to disrupt discussions that reddit doesn’t approve of, such as those about Lemmy or certain political issues.

Why wouldn’t they? It’s a very simple decision for them, they need to protect their money and the shareholders money, and they’ll do whatever they have to in order to accomplish that objective.

The worst part of browsing reddit imo, you cant block a subreddit, you downvote posts, it shows up more, no way to hide it from any feed, my subscribed feed showed me tons of subs not relevant to me that I wasn’t subbed to after they made the api changes and got rid of the other apps. It felt like they wanted me to open the app and be upset about something everyday when I was just trying to look at what I was subscribed to. (3d, animation, edm, etc. not subbed to any of the main subs, would still see them)

I still prefer the email analogy with explaining how it works. The WoW analogy is for the people who say “That’s too complicated for the unwashed masses to understand.” People have been signing up for World of Warcraft going on three decades now, I think they’ll figure out lemmy.world vs sh.itjust.works.

Was reading through the thread and holy shit I swear half the comments are anti fediverse propaganda.

Some comments are suspiciously skeptical. If they were this skeptical before joining then they never would’ve joined Reddit lol. Someone just tried to tell me that the report button on Lemmy doesn’t do anything.

      https://old.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/1i6rp3o/decentralized_social_media_is_the_only/m8i99k6/?context=9

And people talking about bots too lol Reddit will literally repost a 1 year old post with identical title and copy-paste the top 100 comments from the original too, talk about bots! And they aren’t labeled as bots! At least bots here are labeled and you can hide them all instantly.

And then they ask for extreme details on how everything works and try to become a master at it before even signing up. Is that how they signed up for Reddit and Discord? I doubt it.

No way these people were that closed-minded and stubborn when they were signing up for Reddit.

People are scared of new things and grow complacent once they find their place in a community or on an app, in this case. It’s the same reason people will argue to death about needing Instagram, Tiktok, Facebook, whatever, and not leave any of them

Honestly I think the answer is BlueSky. For all the problems that people have with it, it’s going to be much more successful in getting people off the Nazi platforms. What’s more X->BlueSky->Mastodon seems easier than X->Mastodon for most people.

Hey, question about Voyager, I’m using it, and if I’m on my main feed and hit the back button, it opens a list of subs, and there seems to be nothing I can do to get back to the feed without refreshing it. It’s veru frustrating because I keep losing track of the post I was just about to tap on. Do you know anything about this?

If I’m understanding you correctly, you are talking about how the Home feed, All feed, etc does not save your scroll position when you leave them. When you go to the top level of the app.

I think this is because the app always refreshes the current state/order of the feed when you return to it. I looked around the settings and I don’t see an option for this.

This sounds like a feature request. It seems like a grace period would do the trick.

I’d make an issue on GitHub or maybe a post on https://lemmy.world/c/voyagerapp about it.

One thought tho, have you tried swipe gestures to go back and forth instead of your back button? It’s difficult to accidentally go back twice when swiping. In case you’ve never done it, try swiping from outside the screen in.

I know it’s not for everyone. And apologies if I’m over explaining swiping.

Not just a grace period, but opening the sub selection menu, I can no longer just close it and return to the view I already had. That view can stick around indefinitely if you enter a post and then back out of it, the posts you had before will remain. There will be no refresh. But when you press back one more time and open that menu, the only way back to the home feed is to select it, which will refresh it. The app has the ability to not refresh, but not in that very specific circumstance. Like literally just a button to close the menu would do the trick I think.

But thanks for the information. This one issue has made me consider switching several times.

if you want your Mastodon posts to also show on Bluesky then use this bridge https://fed.brid.gy/ you only need to follow the account @[email protected] (note: is this a typo? It is not a typo. It will follow you back and make sure to accept the follow) and it will automatically bridge you

I’ve personally had an issue with a world admin in the past, that’s why I picked up on it. I don’t seem to be having as much issues lately, so maybe they’ve chilled. It’s the advertising part that kind of bugs me for their instance instead of Lemmy in general:

Really if you’re telling someone about it, you just tell them one of the bigger, better instances. Don’t send them to that “pick a server” thing. I don’t know if I’m allowed to link it here, but the name of the software and the word “world” with a period in between is a fine server for both Lemmy and Mastodon.

I went from a heavy, daily reddit user to making half a dozen comments here in a year. All my activity is now over there, outside of search results.

                It’s by u/Serinus

The idea of picking a bigger server is better for new people, but idk how I feel about them advertising only their server.

The average person hits a server choice and gives up so it probably does help add more people.

via Mastodon. I still mostly use Mastodon (but I follow hashtags so its a little like an un-curated RSS feed in that respect. I’ve been on Mastodon for a couple years. I also use a couple other Fediverse projects eg Freindica, Bookwyrm and GotoSocial

        no.
