I’ve been enjoying Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport Ultra Light spf 50 for years as an ultra endurance athlete. However, I haven’t experimented with too many brands. Sun Bum is nice but pricey since I go through so much sunscreen.
What are your favourites? Are there any Korean ones that come in big tubes that people have tried?
Sun Bum may be pricy, but I’ve never found anything I liked better
Works well, and smells amazing.
Hey I thought I’d let you know…my partner was just researching sun screen, and we had sun bum and she found this:
this is for the 50 spf spray. the lotion has better marks iirc.
I didn’t know that website existed, thanks!
Either did I! Nor would I ever lol. Thank you, lade. (:
Agreed. It’s reef safe, stay on well, and they have both “normal” and mineral versions.
My skin is pretty oily and their face stuff has never burned my eyes (after wearing it for a bit) like other do.
I’ve had several worrisome moles removed and my dermatologist recommended using a physical sunscreen instead of chemical. I like Australian Gold Botanical SPF50 Mineral Lotion because it’s got both zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, and it doesn’t seem to rub or sweat off for me. I personally think it smells nice but some people seem to be put off by the scent.
I’ve had good luck with physical sunscreens. Like blue lizard.
Be careful. A lot of those chemicals wind up in your blood and we aren’t even certain how bad they are for you yet.
In recent years there used to be benzene in sunscreen which is very toxic. Only recently was it removed. How bad is the other stuff?
Which chemicals specifically are you talking about? All sunscreen active ingredients must be approved by the regulating body in my country, Health Canada. We do know that they’re safe because they had to be thoroughly researched and scrutinized to be approved for sale in Canada. There are multiple sunscreen active ingredients that still aren’t approved yet since it’s such a thorough and slow process.
They recall any sunscreens which test to contain unsafe levels of benzene anyways.
Please drop the appeal to ignorance fallacy. I’ve had multiple loved ones die from cancer. Do not fuck with cancer.
I get it, we’re seeing chemical UV filters detected in bodily fluids. And the EWG is saying we should re-review some of the filters which have been approved many years ago. I’m always for gathering more evidence and research and support that position.
In the meantime, we have much more evidence that they are safe than they are not. But you know what we have the most evidence for? That sun exposure causes skin cancer. And spending 10+ hours per week in the sun as an athlete, this is my best option since otherwise I WILL get severe burns.
“clean beauty” sunscreens are not an option for me, as they often use unapproved and harmful compounds (ie butyloctyl salicylate) and fail UV testing. Yet EWG lists it as low risk as it’s in many of the clean beauty brands they accept money to approve which is concerning.
Dropping a link is low effort and not a discussion in good faith. Judging by your gross comment history including the R word, im just going to block you.
