He holds a PhD which is a doctorate, giving him the title Doctor. Maybe we as a society should stop respecting people because of their titles.
No, we should make it illegal to represent yourself as a clinically doctor on fucking tv when you are not.
People who have phd in x wouldn’t or shouldn’t be represent themselves as an doctor wheh have doctrine in math or whatever he has.
He has a doctorate in clinical psychology. The same degree my wife has who works with patients. Her patients refer to her as Dr because that is what she has earned

The title Dr belongs to anyone who has a doctorate. I called all my professors in college Dr and they were all historians without a license to practice anything. The title goes with the degree, not any certification to practice.
To be clear, Dr Phil is a piece of shit. But he is a Doctor.
