I think they’re saying they don’t have the money right now, but they have a means to get it. Not that they’re waiting for a deposit from the other person, lol

Man, I’ve known people like this. The worst is a combination of willfully bad memory and a lack of respect for what I was trying to say.

I don’t believe someone does this on purpose. When would this work?

I’ve known people like this who are hoping you’ll agree just to avoid confrontation.

With $500 on the line, fuck no am I willing to avoid confrontation.

It’s not about it working. It’s about creating a narrative in their own head where they are the victim even if it’s a complete fabrication. Then they can pin all their recent troubles on something that isn’t their fault. “That asshole gave me a thumbs up, then went back on it! I needed that thing for success, and he’s the reason that didn’t happen.”

You imply it’s intentional, meanwhile it seems far more likely they’re too stupid to realize their error and double down due to narcissism making them think they’re infallible.

My mother-in-law. She rewrites history in her head and imagine stories where she’s the hero that didn’t actually happen.

It’s a coping mechanism to prevent her having to face and work on her own problems.

It took me 25 minutes to get rid of a Craigslist buyer once. He was buying a hand truck, a generic, wheeled truck.

But boy did he want to talk, and talk, and talk. Just gimme my $20 and go away now.

If I can’t get 100 for something it gets donated to the thrift shop. Its just not worse all the hassel.

I give those away on the Buy Nothing groups first. Thrift stores throw away what they can’t shelve, and you know you’re helping your neighbors directly.

Buy Nothing is such an incredible concept. My local group is super active and you can ask for the most random thing and have an offer in minutes. A few years ago I asked for a machete and had three people offering to give me one within 20 minutes.

Im sorta lucky in that we have a local charity run one that is a great place to donate and buy. Its not like goodwill or such.
