Summary
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has barred Jan. 6 rioters from state employment, countering Donald Trump’s mass pardons.
In a directive, Pritzker declared their actions “infamous and disgraceful,” emphasizing that government employees must uphold democratic values.
Trump’s sweeping pardons included Proud Boys and Oath Keepers members convicted of seditious conspiracy.
The move is expected to face legal challenges, but Illinois officials believe the personnel code provides strong legal footing.
Pritzker, a longtime Trump critic, has also opposed other recent federal actions, including a blocked freeze on federal aid.

riotersinsurrectionists from state jobs after Trump pardonsFTFY
They weren’t rioters, they were trying to overthrow an election
The press never fails to downplay the threat of fascists.
the press makes more money from fascism
Good call, Gov. I’ve contacted my Gov to ask them to do the same!
sounds like we need a D3 movement.
- deny them access to every lever of power
- delay their every attempt to assert authority
- depose every one of them for their crimes
no idea where that came from. just popped out of the aether along with a word vaguely shaped like “peacefully” or something - idk. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
edit: word
Right energy, but I’d like to hear legal analysis of this. I’m not sure this is legal.
Being part of an insurrection is not a protected class.
Fully legal.
Probably is. I was thinking that with laws they have to be “more general” and that maybe there would be something similar that applied to government employment requirements… I’m starting to think that there probably isn’t.

It’s a prerequisite for employment. Some jobs require a college degree. Some jobs require a certain amount of experience in the field. Some jobs require that you have not tried to overthrow the government.
Also worth mentioning that a presidential pardon commutes the sentence and ends jail time, but does NOT expunge one’s criminal record.
If a j6’er has a felony record from the event,that will still appear on background checks for employment including with state orgs. It’s a get out of jail free card, but there are still other consequences attached. That makes it very easy for a governor such as the above to exclude such traitors from holding state positions.TIL;
A presidential pardon excuses a person who has committed a crime from serving punishment. A pardon does not expunge, or erase, a criminal record or a finding of guilt. However, if any civil rights were lost due to the criminal conviction, those rights will be restored.
Isn’t that the difference between a pardon and a commutation? I could be wrong.
It feels dangerously like it’s targeting specific people though. Like “all felons” vs. “all felons named Dave”. I don’t know what the exact order is or what the laws say though.
You’re so right. We should also make sure that people who have been convicted of sex offenses against children can get jobs in preschools.
Edit: And it’s not targeting “all felons named Dave,” it applies to "all people who became felons because they chose to participate in a violent insurrection.
You’re so right.
I didn’t make a point. I asked a question…
None of your comments here have been questions. You are stating what you think. I was making the point that what you think is stupid.
Who the fuck cares what’s “legal”
The laws we have don’t apply to the filthiest fascist this country has ever “elected” so why should any of us comply with the so-called laws?
I forget the term, but there’s an ideological theory where you only follow laws you think are moral (it’s not Moral Law, but close to that, it doesn’t need divine/etc meanings behind it). So you don’t kill people, because you feel murder is amoral, but you would ‘jay walk’, or steal from a mega-corporation. If fascists stop following laws, there’s an argument that letting them be protected by laws is going to keep them motivated to keep not following them.
Can’t remember what it’s called, I’m sure someone here will know.
Blocked
If Trump doesn’t give a shit about the law, why should Pritzker?
[while it rains flaming shit] “So I’m not actually sure if this umbrella fully meets IP68 waterproofing standards, so I say we all just stand here and take it until someone can confirm otherwise, beyond a shadow of a doubt”.
You’re here, buddy… It’s happening. You’re waiting for an official red letter to arrive in the mail while the actual notice was tattooed on your forehead months ago. Start throwing every god damn thing you can grab at it, because you don’t know how many levels deep you are in the “first they came for…” this time around.
GRRR ANGRY RESPONSE MISREADING THE ORIGINAL MESSAGE GRRRR!
Buddy - I’m just wondering if it will hold up to challenges. Back the fuck off.
Reach for that high ground all you want, your musing about semantics on the rule of law while the president, his wife, his son, his son’s dipshit friend and the religious grifter who prayed at his inauguration all simultaneously launched and are rug pulling individual memecoins to steal Grandma’s grocery money. Ohh… and concentration camp at Guantanamo.
GRRR WAKE UP.
send em’ to Guantanamo /s
