Guys, lpt. Get extra laundry baskets. If you find things out of place put it in the laundry basket in a conspicuous place. Dry cups, clothes, books, papers, all goes in the basket. Sort when it gets full or you have the urge.

Hah, I never have this problem because I never have deep cleaning motivation, or any other motivation.

    :(

I started my kitchen renovation three years ago by taking down the old cabinet. I have had no cabinet in my kitchen for three years. I also had tools all over my kitchen for two of those years, but then I finally admitted defeat and put them away.

    I’m only exaggerating a little.

I tore the floor off from our hall a year ago to fix a hole under the floor material and replace the laminate. Still pending.

Two years ago I painted the toilet and the door frame is still missing the moulding.

We renovated the kitchen 4 years ago and it’s missing all the moulding as well.

Floor replacement is one of the few major projects I finished quickly. In one room I tore out even the old subfloor (you could fall into the basement) and for some reason I really enjoyed the process of putting a new floor in. Take a look at this wide-plank pine. (Old-fashioned but appropriate for a rustic location.) Isn’t it gorgeous?

That’s off-topic but I couldn’t resist showing off. Sometimes I’m still sad that I had to sell that house.

P.S. If I was doing the renovation now, I’d replace the old, dark trim or at least paint the walls a richer color to go with it.

I kind of love it. I’d paint the walls a blue green to help balance the yellow of the wood. That’s what I did in my kitchen. Here’s an awardawkward photo of the colors, cropped to hide the mess of my kitchen.

Also, the previous painters were messy. I taped off the cabinets. Awkward corner shot of a golden oak kitchen cupboard, blue green wall, and white textured ceiling.

Hah, I painted my bedroom in a similar color!

I wasn’t the biggest fan of how it turned out but I didn’t dislike it either.

These are photos the real estate agent used for the listing when selling the house. That’s why they’re all taken using a lens that makes every room look like a long hallway.

Just think about all those administrative tasks you’ve been neglecting which are piling up. And remember, a few even require you to phone a hotline.

You’ll get back to deep cleaning in no time.

Also, have assigned/labeled boxes for everything. And a big bag for whatever doesn’t belong to any of them. It’s way easier to deal with mess if your brain doesn’t need a lot to figure out where to put said items.

My solution has entirely just been to own less things and designated spots for every item. The main problem is forcing myself not to get cool things I will never actually use

Sometimes I have to ignore my deep cleaning motivation because I know it won’t be enough to finish the job. I try to save it all up for a better time.

I try to only deep clean one corner of the room. If it works, great! I’m a quarter of the way there. If it fails, okay! Most of the room is still usable.

Man, that wine is doing some heavy lifting. I’m not even drinking it and it feels like the room is spinning.
