Not just the problem is fun, the way the article is written is fun!
I hope there’s a matrix pivot somewhere in the proof.
Nothing is funnier than thinking that a bunch of mathematicians sitting around for 58 years trying to come up with the mathematical solution. When all the mathematicians had to do was following some movers to see how it was solved practically; go back to their office and come up with the formula. Boom! Done in a fraction of the time.
Tell me you didn’t read the article without telling me you didn’t read the article.
The solution is a couch shape that I have never seen before.
The actual problem was to determine the shape of the largest sofa that could fit around a given corner. The shape had been known for some time as the largest known shape, but only recently was it proved optimal.
