Ok, forget whether it’s a “favorite” and just tell me any video game you’ve played with a vampire protagonist.

There are plenty of games with vampires as enemies but I want more games where I get to be a vampire. Especially games where you can refill your health by drinking an enemy’s blood. That’s just a fun game mechanic. I think the only games I’ve played where you can actually drink an enemy’s blood is probably Dark and Bloodrayne. I need more.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, V:tM Bloodlines and Redemption. Particularly fond of Kain’s VO work in that game.

Well it doesn’t have the blood drinking mechanic but Castlevania Symphony of The Night

Wearing the Blood Cape heals you when the enemy dying splashes you with blood, so it kinda has that.

The soundtrack is the primary reason to play that game. Just epic all over the place.

I always enjoy my modded Skyrim playthroughs as a vampire.

There are tons of vampire related mods.

I use the Better Vampires mod as my main, to really tweak how the vampire experience will play.

I have also been using the Vampire Lords Can Fly mod in my last few playthroughs and it’s a lot of fun.

The Dawnguard DLC has a whole Vampire related quest line and there are mods to get even more vampire specific content.

I love Dawnguard and I credit it as one of the three core pieces of vampire media (the other two being the Darren Shan saga that I read at a much younger age, and Dracula: The Musical, which my school performed around the same time Skyrim came out) that got me into vampires. But tbh, I find the experience of actually playing as a vampire in Skyrim deeply unsatisfying. I never played with Better Vampires though. Skimming through its Nexus page just now, that’s a shame. It looks like a pretty good improvement.

What made Dawnguard so excellent IMO wasn’t the playable vampire stuff, it was the storyline of the quest, and especially the fact that Serana was basically the only NPC in the game with any semblance of depth to her.

Sacrosanct is a really good one too making vampires grow the more you feed with new spells and vampire lord abilities

If you haven’t played Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, then you’ve been missing out. The gameplay is a bit rough, but otherwise it is a masterpiece.

My obsession with vampires is a relatively recent thing. It was only when I tried finding a list of good vampire games that I learned VtM: Bloodlines is basically treated as the gold standard of all vampire games. Clearly I am missing out. I worry the gameplay will be clunky with it being such an old game but it sounds like I need to at least give it a try. Next time it goes on sale on steam I’ll definitely buy it. Thanks!

GOG may be a better place to buy it, Steam isn’t great at maintaining old games. AFAIK GOG has the unofficial patch applied.
