They are trying to solve the $1 trillion question that the ruller class have been seeking for centuries: How to remove the need to pay wages? How to remove the workers from the equation?
I’m convinced that if they get a robot which can serve as an acceptable soldier/laborer, they’ll go full Children of Men and sterilize most of the population. And they really believe AI will let them replace the artists, too.
The rich are trying to achieve world domination before we collectively strip them of their excess wealth to fix wealth inequality and dethrone them.
