Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said the online forum site plans to launch an upgraded search experience in 2025 designed to help users navigate the social network and be able to answer “subjective hard, [and] interesting questions.”

While I agree it sucks, AI might be the only way to fix the dogshit dumpster fire that is reddit search. And now that reddit stopped Google from web scraping new posts it might soon be the only way to find recent information that way.

We should reserve judgement until it is implemented, it could be so much worse than we have ever imagined because it was trained on Reddit posts.

I met Steve one time waiting in line at rite aid and he told me he hates dessert and hugs. that’s weird I thought. I was holding a drink and he smacked it out of my hand. then he pointed at something on my shirt. I was concerned I had an embarrassing stain or something, but I went to look down at it, he fucking hits me in the face. I hate Steve man.

My favorite application for AI is as a search tool. I can describe concepts to ChatGPT and it will tell me what it’s called and lead me to further reading.

For example, I once showed it a picture and asked it about the art style. I told it what I liked about it and asked for suggestions of other styles or techniques that would have a similar appeal. It was a very fruitful experience that just can’t be done with a search bar.

That said, it’s Reddit. I’m sure it’ll be terrible.
