Mandarin for "that"is much more problematic. It’s “neiga”. And we typically say it multiple times. So imagine someone pointing at someone and says “neiga neiga”

Yes, but apparently my understanding is a bit off.
I was told the same by multiple Chinese people, it sounds like “nugga” and is often repeated a few times, like the way Americans would say “um, um” and can absolutely sound bad without context or understanding.
