Currently Fusion 360 projects are stored in the cloud with “single storage”. The default save location in Fusion 360.
Autodesk is moving to “Fusion Hub” since they boast it’s better at collaboration and file management.
If you receive the email notifying you of Fusion Hub. You have approximately 30 days" to upgrade to Fusion Hub. Auto desk will allow you to “skip the process once”, but will force you to upgrade after 24 hours.
Once you start the process of upgrading the “Single Storage” will be remove immediately or available for 30 days for collaborative files. So if you are collaborating with others, ensure to tell them or they will loose access to the project.
Shared links to existing projects will be broken after the upgrade.

My solution to this was to back up all my projects so I have a local copy, and move to FreeCAD. I’m tired of Autodesk changing the deal every year or so.
Especially with freecad 1 just being released. Lots of great improvements and many tutorials are being created to show the new workflows
Does free cad have any cam functionality?
Interesting, I hadn’t ever seen any discussion of cam side stuff in freecad, I might have to keep tabs on it a bit more. Looking at their wiki pages for the cam workbench it seems pretty far from adequate for my needs though.
Kind of sort of. It’s seems to be OK for 2D CAM like routers or lasers. I wouldn’t want to try even a barely complex multi axis part in a machining center.
Yeah, looking at the wiki page for the cam workbench seems like it could probably handle VMC work, but even basic turning didn’t sound super well supported, let alone any kind of mill/turn or multi axis work.

FreeCAD has improved drastically with the 1.0 update. There’s no need to tolerate this corporate BS.

But they already use cloud storage? What’s different about this? Why wouldn’t you want to use it?

PDM is the current buzzword for lower-end CAD. Alibre just added it. OnShape tries to embody it. Solidworks hobbyist options only continue to exist in order to market it. Even the Ondsel startup that hired some FreeCAD devs built their (failed) business model around bolting PDM on.
This looks like it’s taking a more traditional “cloud storage” model and replacing it with something more PDM-like so they can sell to low-end corporate users, and the hobbyists just get rolled in because ain’t nobody maintaining something just for the freeloaders, who can be forced to get used to it anyway and might push for it if they ever get work in the field, simply because they know it.
My guess is it’s not inherently worse than what it’s replacing, but it’s likely complicated and kinda clunky for a random person designing gears and project enclosures.

From reading it the reason seems to be to allow people who are currently sharing projects to coordinate the move so everyone retains their access. It didn’t seem fishy to me. I’m just a hobby user though so I don’t have as much to worry about.

Just upgraded mine. As far as I can tell it works exactly the same as before except there is now a “Hub” web portal and admin console you can use to give out access to your projects. Reading the documentation they said it would break existing shares. It prompted me that it would ask additional questions during the set up depending on what I was doing but I didn’t have any previous shares and did not get any additional questions. I would assume the 30 day grace period is to plan for this so you can get any shared documents straightened out afterwards. After the update it prompted me to “set up how I use fusion” by picking a module and then if I wanted it to start with a blank document or a previous document or a demo. That was annoying but didn’t reappear after I re-launched the app. All in all I don’t think this is that much of a concern. Looking at the web admin page the options it gives seem like they would be useful for someone sharing projects.
Note: they dropped the 360. It’s just Autodesk Fusion now.
