Picard paper mache bust from TNG s7e12 “The Pegasus”
Reference:
Wiki with section about the failed restoration. This was back in 2012 already.
Also rather fond of this creepy thing:
God I love that episode :)
“It’s Captain Picard Day” smiles uncomfortably at com system camera
You just cannot be in a bad mood watching that scene :D
While not a mistake, also awesome:
I’ve actually seen that in person!!
That same cathedral has a Moon rock (from Apollo 11) embedded into one of the stained glass windows:

And I learned something today.
Guessing these were copycat “restorations” as a result?
Botched Mary
The owner of a 16th-century artwork depicting the Virgin Mary was shocked/furious/upset when his treasured possession returned from being cleaned looking a little… different. Discontent with the cleaner’s job, the owner of the painting sent the painting back for a second go - then things got worse.Well damn. Looks like a little bit of history repeating.
Why is artist in quotes here? this is Art

How did the artist shift the source of light from the left to the right? That takes skills to be able to change an image so much that they actually change the source of light like that.
