My father recently passed and I had him cremated. He’s currently in a sealed bag in a box, but I’d like to get a custom urn made that’s Zelda themed, since we both loved The Legend of Zelda series. However, Etsy has become a difficult place to find anything with how filled it’s become with mass produced stuff.

Any one have a place or seller that I could get one made? Or perhaps a reputable seller of just urns and someone who could paint them?

Thanks in advance.

I got an urn for my son off a woodworker i followed on TikTok.

Since you are thinking a zelda themed urn, maybe a clay pot that look like the ones from the game? Try a pottery shop?

If you want wood, i could try and hook you up with the guy who did my son’s.

Hey the clay pot idea is great and I feel silly for having not thought of it. I’ll have to look around for that. Get the pot and then have someone paint it later. Thanks for that.

As for the wood, that also sounds nice. A buddy actually suggested something similar and then having it painted or carved on.

Not what you asked but there are pottery shops where you can sign up for a course and make your own clay pot.

I’m very sorry for what you’re going through. I got an urn for mom off of Etsy 5ish years ago. It was a wooden one with a tree of life carved into it.

Talk to some laser engravers on Etsy to see if their laser setup could accommodate the dimensions of an urn.

I’m only familiar with a Glowforge at the maker lab in my library, and the max clearance for items is only about an inch. So my workaround for that would be to have some thin pieces of wood and laser cut or etch that with your design, and laminate them to a plain wooden urn. I’d stain the laminate pieces a different color than the urn as well.

Or, can’t believe I didn’t think to mention this first…I had a brass plate laser etched (also from Etsy) with a labyrinth pattern that was significant to Mom. That’s also where I put her name and years. I affixed that to the top of the urn (the urn chamber was accessed via the bottom). Let me see if I can get you some pics in case it would help give you ideas.

Thank you. Him dying was something I’ve been preparing for for a long time so it’s been more relief than anything. I miss him but I try to look at it as he’s no longer suffering, y’know?

A laser engraved wood box is a fantastic idea. I’ll look into that. Any sellers on Etsy or anywhere you’d recommend? I tried searching this morning but found so much it felt overwhelming.

I completely get the relief when a loved one passes from a long health struggle. Everyone’s grief journey is different, and even mine was different between different family members’ passings. But for me all sorts of other complicated emotions continue to bubble up from time to time regarding my mom. The waves get further and further apart, but it may never completely go away. Sending you thoughts of support and comfort.

I looked up the old orders on Etsy but the sellers I used back then have since closed their shops.

    Have you tried aliexpress?

The last urn I got was from there. The crematorium was selling the exact same one for 10x the price.

Not sure about Zelda theme. You could try finding something that’s not an urn and call it an urn?

Sorry for your loss and good luck on your journey ahead

I haven’t yet but I was trying to avoid it. I wanted something bespoke, made by someone who isn’t being paid slave wages. I hope that doesn’t come off as arrogant.

Someone else suggested a clay pot modeled after the in-game ones and that’s a very neat idea.

      Thanks for everything.

    Fellow Lemmings

Why exclude the rest of the fediverse? I’m not a fan recreating redditisms in general. It’s bad enough that Lemmy has cake days.
