To provide an answer to the title on why:

  • NVIDIA’s limited GPU supply and high initial MSRP ridiculously increases costs for everyone.
  • PhysX 32-bit support has been depreciated.
  • 12V high power cable is severely underspeced which may or may not cause problems into the future.
  • Scalpers are everywhere because of the limited supply and insane initial prices.
  • Market sellers such as Newegg are bundling NVIDIA’s limited GPUs with overpriced and old components/peripherals.
    • Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) buyers will be saddled with overpriced and useless e-waste.

The general consensus online seems to be that NVIDIA has fumbled their 50 series GPU launch in spectacular fashion. Best of luck to those who can buy the 5070 Ti at the marketed $749 USD MSRP.

I’m leaning towards the new Intel b580. I’m thinking the more ram will be worth it. Not sure though.

Personally, I’m hoping they release a B380. I’d love to put one in my media server for transcoding

The one thing I’ve heard is that it is highly CPU reliant, so I’m planning to upgrade my motherboard and CPU at the same time. Microcenter has some good deals right now though, and for $400 I can get a board, processor and RAM.

I ordered a newer CPU a few days ago in anticipation of getting a hold of a B380 in the future.

My 1060 6Gb is starting to crash on me.

    I found myself seriously considering buying… A working second hand 1060 6Gb.

I mean, sure? I’m kinda in Europe I’m not sure if that would make things awkward.

As long as the trade is fair for both of us I don’t mind sending it to Europe👍

          Edit:
rip, shipping unfortunately costs an arm and a leg

I would offer to sell you my old 1080Ti but it is too busy working in my kids’ gaming rig.

Why not B580? I think they are still relatively reasonably priced and I think it will serve you better?

I’m not on board (heh) with Intel yet, also second hand is more sustainable, last but not least, it would be overkill with my CPU (and the PSU and indirectly the motherboard).

Trick is to not buy a 4k monitor. With 1440p a 4060ti gives you excellent, quit and affordable gaming and AI. 😊

Nvidia hasn’t fumbled shit, they still know 80% of gamers buying new hardware will climb over mountains of dead bodies to get their hands on these cards and that their data center business will continue raking in money hand over fist. They don’t give a flying fuck what they price them at or how the launch goes.

Bruh… just checked and AMD 7900 XTX cards got their prices jacked up by almost $500. A Sapphire Nitro+ was like $900 less than 30 days ago

Holy shit. I had been thinking about upgrading while prices were still relatively low but have been trying to convince myself my 6700xt is fine and will hold up… Guess that window is closed now lol

I’ve been hunting for a fair priced 4070 recently, they’re all $750-$1000 right now. But checking Amazon early in the mornings I’ve seen some 7900s and 4070s at/close to MSRP. They go quick but I managed to get a 4070 for $550 two days ago, worth a shot if you need one.

But I was assured it would be the equivalent of a 4090! Surely someone with an ugly jacket wouldn’t lie about their products?

Damnit I just got a 9800x3d, guess I’ll be good knowing I can upgrade to whatever gpu comes out that’s in the sweet spot for awhile. I do have a 3070 so not like I’m slumming it, but was really hoping that the 50xx series would be worth it. Guess it’s time to read up on ray tracing and dlss type features since I haven’t done that homework in many years now. Always seemed like Nvidia was better supported but maybe not the big difference it it appears to be. I have gone back and forth over the years anyways.

i regret not buying 1080 back in the day… that extra 250 bucks would have really paid for itself by now lol
