Summary

IRS worker Robert McCabe, a Trump voter, expressed shock after being among 7,000 laid off by DOGE, an initiative under the Trump administration led by Elon Musk.

McCabe stated DOGE is acting like a “wrecking ball and destroying people’s lives for no reason.”

The layoffs, targeting probationary employees with less than a year of service, affect hundreds at the IRS and are part of a broader effort to shrink the federal workforce.

The cuts raise concerns about impacts on tax collection during a critical season.

Imagine working with the IRS, voting with the party that has said for years they want to defund the IRS, and then being surprised when that party attacks the IRS. I don’t fucking understand these people at all. They truly live a life devoid of reality. They are incapable of considering real world consequences.

Truly to be a conservative is to lack imagination.

Just like anyone in a union that voted for Trump, or any woman. I don’t know what they expected.

In the union we were always taught to vote with your wallet. Every meeting during elections I heard it. Still, every other guy would be on about voting for Trump. Can’t fix stupid.

Criticizing and even insulting awful people is hardly dehumanizing. Notice how I just called them people?

But, I don’t know, maybe calling large swaths of people vermin, or saying they’re poisoning the blood of our country, or even just rounding them up and shipping them off to some place they do not know because they’re the wrong skin tone? Well that would be pretty shitty.

Absolutely! I mean you’re acknowledging that they’re people, and people have conflicts all the time, this is normal. Feel free to have all the opinions about that you want.

But saying that as a group, they all lack basic intelligence or a soul, that’s not helpful to discourse, and that’s really my only point.

Hey, if I had all the power in the world I’d still share it with them in the form of healthcare, equal rights, and all that. That’s the thing, they fucking suck rocks and are the worst examples of a human being but I’ll still consider them human either way.

It’s not a binary, maybe you’ll learn that and maybe you won’t.

I accused you of dehumanizing people and you respond with…

            It’s not a binary

What does that even mean in this context? Are you saying they’re like part people?

For the record you said earlier that they lacked intelligence and a soul, which is pretty literally dehumanizing, that’s what I was responding to. Look, I’m not trying to shame you here, I get where you’re coming from. I’m trying to remind you that you’re being taken advantage of. That foreign and corporate powers are actively trying to influence public discourse and divisiveness is their most powerful tool, they’re pitting us against each other for their own gain.

So don’t fall for it! Don’t take the bait! As soon as you start treating the other side like they don’t even matter, like they’re some different species who aren’t smart enough to think for themselves, then you’re giving up the game, we lose.

And you’re right about one part for sure though, conservatives are lacking in communication skills, unfortunately, so are liberals; that’s just a human problem. (And on that note, maybe some day I’ll learn how to communicate all this in one sentence rather than having to write several paragraphs every time.)

A binary as in you can call someone a piece of absolute fucking trash and still not try to take their rights away. And I specifically said I will always treat them as human because I have principles. Also lacking a soul is a more flowery, poetic way of saying that they seem unable to have kind of compassion or joy and they treat situations as mathematic bullshit instead of ever taking into consideration a human aspext(but boy are they also full of feelings and absolutely terrible at math).

Like, I’m glad you’re looking out but I think you’re missing the nuance here.

Ok, that word you’re looking for is “empathy”, but soul is definitely the wrong one. The words you use to describe people matter a lot, I’m not being pedantic.

You think I’m missing the nuisance? Funny. Ironically, I think the language you’re using just lacks empathy.

A few miles away, another prison employee, Crystal Minton, accompanied her fiancé to a friend’s house to help clear the remnants of a metal roof mangled by the hurricane. Ms. Minton, a 38-year-old secretary, said she had obtained permission from the warden to put off her Mississippi duty until early February because she is a single mother caring for disabled parents. Her fiancé plans to take vacation days to look after Ms. Minton’s 7-year-old twins once she has to go to work. The shutdown on top of the hurricane has caused Ms. Minton to rethink a lot of things.“I voted for him, and he’s the one who’s doing this,” she said of Mr. Trump. “I thought he was going to do good things. He’s not hurting the people he needs to be hurting.

Crystal Minton, who inadvertently became the ideological core of the MAGA movement. She said the quiet part out loud.

I like what the left wants is universal healthcare, a social safety net, housing for everyone, just stuff where we’d love it if everybody had access to it. The only people who need to be “hurt” are the straight-up actual criminals who seem to otherwise dodge every consequence and those people are extremely rich assholes who have a lot of power and use it all for pure evil and none of them are regular people.

But then the right comes along and it’s always “how can we bring the most cruel, crude punishment to this margainalized group of poor people?” and it’s just, like…fucking really?

The IRS, particularly, was spoken about as a clear target well before Election Day. The GOP make it clear they want to kill the revenue generating service because they’re actually terrible business people.

This guy is an idiot if he didn’t think he could be impacted, too.
