Alice in Chains, “Jar of flies” (1994).

No special vinyl colour or added weight here. I realised I needed this, and I settled for whatever repress my vinyl pusher had on hand. I can upgrade later.

Foremost, this was a record that made me fall in love with the bass guitar, and realise that it’s not just a backing instrument played by also-ran guitarists. Not a profound insight, but I was a teenager.

this is the only AiC album that I can still put on and listen to the whole thing. I do like the other albums but this is the only one that sticks with me after all this time

Same. “Dirt” is still an album I can put on once in a while, but the introspection and melancholy of “Jar of flies” just hits hard.

To me, it does what the best EPs do: there is no filler, it just goes from strength to strength. I don’t think I could pick a favourite song, it’s all solid.

Same here. The difference between them is, I gave my black album to a second hand store recently because I cringe so hard listening to it.

YMMV if you did less idiotic things to Metallica as a teenager than I did 😂

Nah, i get it. Those two albums in particular remind me of HS and MtG. Cringe times indeed.

This and SAP were my co-headliners in my rotation in high school. So many bangers. Congrats on the good pickup and hope you’re able to get that upgrade whenever you’re able😁

Thanks! I bet Mike Inez’ bass sounds awesome on 180g vinyl, but I’ll get by for now 😄
