Started on one computer mouse needing a new AA battery. Then re-glued the foot pad that had fallen off and was making it rock. While vigorously testing the other foot pads, they came off, and so I ended up re-gluing them all.
Then went one to another mouse and started to clean some dust in the corners of it. Turned out the dust was enough that I had an excuse to take it apart. Then there was enough random tiny fibers/hairs that I couldn’t get off that I went to use the air compressor to really get it clean. And re-glued the feet pads here, because, why not.
With as much as I take apart my computer mice, it causes the factory sticky tape to fail. So I actually cut out an access whole where the foot pad covers the hidden screws. And then I can use gel super glue to keep the foot pads down fully without curling.
I re-glued the rubber pad on the side of my mouse the other day. It’s been wonderful not having to continually reposition it because the glue had broken down to the point that it slid about.

I remember having to clean the little wheelies inside the ball mouse. No one understood you had to do this at companies and it was rough being “the I.T. guy.”
It’s weird that I miss doing this.
What’s sad is I had a ‘ball’ mouse for 14 years of 7x16 use, with only regular cleaning keeping it going.
I liked doing it, too. I have a trackball mouse, so I still get to do that sometimes.
Heck yeah, cleaning little tufts of grime out from blocking the trackball sensor is so satisfying
I use trackballs, never got the hang of mice. They’re superior for everything except gaming, in my experience.
First person (or fast paced) anything on a trackball leads to repetitive stress injury.
I still use the older Logitech thumb trackball. Mostly just when traveling, so I don’t have to worry about having a good surface for mouse movement. I wish I could get one with more additional buttons.
That’s pretty much what I use, but went for another brand last time because Logitech doesn’t really improve their stuff anymore.
I buy used ones from eBay.

I’m still using my herd of M570s, is the M575 any good? The MX Ergo is a mistake; it’s nice how it tips over but the ball is at the wrong angle and the rubberized coating perished so the surface feels like pus now.
I’m still on my umpteenth m570 too, with a red ball from an older model. I haven’t tried any of the newer ones yet. I’m excited to try the 575, but my cheap self is still insisting the infamous 570 multiple clicking hasn’t gotten bad enough to justify it quite yet.

Oh the multiple clicking isn’t an issue for me, if one of my mice starts getting uppity I tear its guts out and replace the switch. I think I’ve replaced the switch in all of my M570’s at least once now. My backpack one is imtiredboss.jpg
Nice, one of these days I’ll summon up the gumption to try getting in there and fixing it.
You need a #1 phillips, a #0 phillips, a soldering iron and accoutrements for desoldering and soldering 3 through-hole joints. There’s a screw under the sticker in the battery compartment; there are no clips holding the outer shell together, if it doesn’t fall apart under gravity there’s another screw somewhere.
Note the replacements will likely fail eventually too if you replace it with the same part number switch; there is a more appropriate switch for the task but don’t ask for the part number off the top of my head.

intrigued trackball user noises. What’s the coating on that thing like? Like the best case scenario is hard plastic, a rubberized coating either perishes or tears or something.
It’s identical to earlier models of the Logitech version as far as I can tell.
