I wouldn’t personally use it, but I want all the communities. I want Lemmy/The fediverse to grow.

I live in an apartment. I have no garden. I have no interest in gardening. I want a gardening community to exist. Even though I wouldn’t use it.

The key to growing this thing is understanding that OTHER people exist. Make a bunch of communities that other types of people will enjoy, because it’s not all about me. It’s not all about you.

So I’ve noticed that Lemmy is at the moment the majority the same person. Technology/gaming heavy interests. Left leaning politics.

And thats about it.

Now, by instinct, my normal feelings would be that right leaning politics should also have an equal space with equal rights. I’ve never been right leaning, but I realize they make up a significant size of the population.

However they gave up that right to be treated as equals when they became a bunch of nazi saluting fascists. I never liked George Bush, but if he were president now instead of the early 2000s, I’d be saying right wing politics needs a space here. Because for all his faults and disgraceful behaviors, he was never a nazi. You can call him a war criminal, I won’t argue. You can call him an asshole, I won’t argue. You can’t call him a nazi. Simply because I believe in keeping fair the meaning of impactful words. If you call everyone you don’t like a nazi, then the heavy handed impact of just how dark and hateful that word is goes away. So I won’t call Bush a nazi or a fascist, simply so when I call the maga movement nazis, it’s not a hollow slur.

And since I believe nazis have no right to equal space, no I don’t see the current need to allow both sides equal space. Nazis have no home on the fediverse. Fascism has no place on the fediverse.

But you know what SHOULD have a place here? Fashion. Music. Arts. All subjects I see completely vacant here. All subjects that I would not personally use, but others would.

If we have 100 potential users, and 10 of those users are interested in current Lemmy topics, we gain 10 users, and lose out on 90, who have nothing here for them.

So yes. I do want you to build this arcade racing community. I want it to do well. I want a community of various celebrity talk. I want a community for sewing. I want a community for arts and crafts. I want an astrology community.

I would never use any of these communities personally, but I want them all to exist. I want everyone to be happy. Unless someone tries to start a nazi community. They can fuck off. Hate has no place here.
