This is by far one of my favorite Sync for Reddit (and now Lemmy) features.

Do you want to go to a different subject from your current feed but you don’t want to lose the feed position? Just hold the community or post you want to go and it will open into another “app window”

Sync for Reddit/Lemmy already handles the RAM in a glorious way by not being closed or losing the content that quickly like many other apps, with this nice extra handy feature you can even improve more your navigation!

EDIT: The feature is called “Long press cards to open comments in the background” and you can check it here:

Settings shortcut: Post options > Long press cards to open comments in the background

It only works in cards and slide views for posts, and I think it works for communities in the explore section with any view type.

Damn, new sync users? I’ve been using Sync for like 10 years and I just learned this. I did notice you can open subscriptions in new windows, could you do that with subreddits before?

I don’t know how I found this, but it must have been pure luck lol.

I’ve been a sync user for years and had no idea this was a thing. Can we have more of these tips and tricks posts?

I enabled that option to test it and when I long-press a post it says “Comments opened in the background” but I don’t see a way of accessing this “background” to view them.

Open your app switcher, there will be another “Sync app” there.

I always just took it to mean that it would cache all the comments in that thread while you were still browsing your feed. Is that not the case?

Huh, I don’t seem to have this option, only to open in a browser. Gonna check I’m up to date and try again

Seems only work for cards. I prefer compact and it doesn’t seem to work there.

I just checked in compact and yeah, it doesn’t work entirely there, but you can go to the discover section and hold on to the communities there and they’ll open up into another app/window, that’s how I use this most anyway, so it’s something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Doesn’t work fully on slides either yet. At least not for me

Yes, that’s the one! I could not find the name LMAO.

Weird, I am not using cards but slides and works fine, also works in the discover list, it would be a shame that this amazing feature does not work at all in other view types.

This feature is so handy! I wish you could do the same with accounts though. Would be handy to be able to open an alt account in another window without losing where I am with my main account

Oh yeah, that seems like a nice feature suggestion, maybe dev can implement it sometime?

    So, this is awesome, thanks!

I didn’t bother trying it since it was in the “legacy” menu.

This is great, but I wish it worked on smaller cards view, as that’s my default.

You can still open communities on another app card from the explore menu, so it’s something.

What does it mean in sync to peak? There is an option to mark posts read on peak
