As a US citizen and Canada/Ukraine/EU/democracy supporter; I pray someone or some group finally takes off all kiddie gloves and gives trump (and thereby me and others in the country as collateral) a divine smackdown to finally make that fucker or at least those close to him realize the world and history won’t stand for his/their fascist putin titty-sucking antics.

      Also pro democracy US citizen.

I live in the only part of the lower 48 that is not directly connected to the American electric grid. Northern Maine gets 100% of its power routed through Canada, with the majority coming from Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station in New Brunswick.

If Canada stopped providing electricity, there will be 70,000 people without power in the middle of winter with no recourse.

A majority of my neighbors voted for Trump. FAFO.

Just gonna pedantically mention that “kid gloves” aren’t something like mini boxing gloves for kids and tiny-handed presidents, they’re adult dress gloves made from supple kid (goat) leather. One would remove them for bareknuckle brawling. So “kiddie” doesn’t quite work. Obviously this is an informal forum, but it’s something to know in case you are talking about something more serious, like having to handle a difficult client with kid gloves; i.e. circumspectly.

“That fucker’s fascist Putin-titty-sucking antics” is spot-on. Appropriate for any situation, imho.

Meanwhile, our ACTUAL PM is saying things like:

“The most important thing right now — more important than anything else — is for Canadians to remain united. This is a time for us to pull together.

    and

Tariffs are the USA’s plan to “see a complete collapse of the Canadian economy. Because that will make it easier to annex us, is the second part of his thought. That is never going to happen. Canada will never be the 51st state”

But that doesn’t make good accelerationist bluster for headlines, so all the Yankee media will ignore it in favour of Canadaman Dougie.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Dougie is good at bluster but will he actually follow through?

Somehow I doubt Trump would give a damn about MN, NY, and MI (although he won MI, Detroit would be competition to his buddy) and would just say it was the fault of blue state policies.

A lot of Trumps support comes out of rural MI and WI, and they talk to each other.

Part of me hopes the reason he doesn’t care is because he can’t run for election again.

Americans will be rethinking sanctions on other countries when they see who is actually suffering.

Unfortunately it likely won’t be the billionaires suffering, so I’m not sure how much meaningful rethinking will be going on unless pressure on them is relentless.

These tariffs are already wildly unpopular in the US, the problem is that our government has been fully captured by the nazis and there’s not much that can be done about it. Most people I know sre hoping that the international response will be harsh enough to spur meaningful change, though nobody really thinks that will happen.

and there’s not much that can be done about it.

That’s true in the sense that the range of possible remedies has shrunk drastically. It does not mean we can’t execute the remedies that remain, however.

Yeah, exactly. To others, please don’t group all Americans together in this shit show. “Americans” aren’t doing this, our clown of a President and his people are.
