The high budget sci-fi film faces a dour theatrical outlook after $53.3 million global start
Strange marketing. Saw a bunch of hype in September/October when the trailer released. Haven’t seen anything since.
And even then, everything screamed “quirky project with Terry Gilliam vibes.” I want to see it, but it didn’t look like the sort of thing whose charms were dependent on a huge screen and a roomful of strangers. I had no idea its budget was well over halfway to a Marvel movie.
When people say they want original movies and then don’t go see them, this is why Hollywood continues to remake the same stuff.
I will say that the marketing of this one hasn’t been very good. The title doesn’t do it any favors.
I saw a couple trailers. It looks like a crazy version of Moon, but I honestly have no idea what to expect. I want to see it.
These films mostly underperform because they’re a new IP, so they deem it risky and don’t advertise as heavily in case it bombs, but then no one knows of it, so it bombs. Self fulfilling prophecy.
I honestly thought it was a straight to streaming movie, had no idea it was in the cinema.
The marketing has been awful.
I’ve just looked at my local cinema, it’s only showing at the moment midday till Thursday. How is anyone meant to see that!
I’ve not heard about this movie at all in any way other than a single post on Mastodon and later review from AngryJoeShow. Considering I’m a movie normie who likes sci-fi, someone didn’t generate enough buzz around it to make us notice it…
Was this movie even marketed / advertised for at all? I haven’t seen anything for it online or on TV.
I’ve never seen so many posts about the box office performance of a movie.
