I think it’s kind of funny, not sure if it was intended that way. Aren’t lemmings known for following each other, even if it is clearly not the right thing to do?

Lemmings jumping off a cliff is a myth set up for a “documentary” by Disney. They literally chased them off the cliff to get the footage.

So it’s actually pretty apropos, as most people are going to be confused/ill-informed about what Lemmy is for a while.

In a way, especially after reddit debacle some of us have been “driven” here too by shitty companies chasing after profits.

That’s true! Though hopefully this doesn’t end up being a “cliff” XD

I think it’s funny. Also, while just researching to debunk the common “Lemmings committin mass suicide misconception”, I came across these additional gems:

In 1532, the geographer Jacob Ziegler of Bavaria proposed the theory that the creatures fell out of the sky during stormy weather and then died suddenly when the grass grew in spring. This description was contradicted by natural historian Ole Worm, who accepted that lemmings could fall out of the sky, but claimed that they had been brought over by the wind rather than created by spontaneous generation.
    […]
Another myth may have roots in the fiercely aggressive nature of lemmings during population booms, and the corresponding leftovers of predatory frenzies: lemmings do not explode.

rather than created by spontaneous generation

People back then were mindbogglingly stupid to believe that.

I am absolutely certain that future humans (should they exist) will say the same about our society, especially after the rise of “social media”.

Main developer (Dessalines) describe it as such :

I fully embrace the lemmings thing lol. Definitely an afterthought, but someone remarked about how redditors always think they’re especially unique freethinkers, and call everyone else “mindless drones”, when they go along 100% with US foreign policy.

We might as well embrace lemmings here as an ironic joke (especially because lemmings don’t actually walk off cliffs, that’s anti-lemming propaganda).

That’s good enough for me and his efforts deserves acknowledgment 😌
