Since the full scale invasion, the russians have threatened nuclear retaliation hundreds of times.
While we’ve been directly targetted not only their strategic bombers, but also their over the horizon radars (and not only ones in Crimea) that are critical for their nuclear early warning system.

A bank robber points a gun at the teller and demands they hand over everything. The robber knows that tellers have access to an alarm that will call in support from outside the bank. The robber says, “if you press the alarm, I will kill every person in this building.” That’s not a threat, then?
It’s the same scenario that you’re presenting. Ukraine (the teller) was invaded as part of a “special military operation” (robbed), and the aggressor (the robber) suggested there would be violent consequences for involving NATO (the external entity) in its defense.
Instead, what if the robber had a knife and the teller had a gun visible in a holster? Would the teller telling the robber to just turn around and walk away be a warning, or a threat?
Surely you know the difference between a warning and a threat.

The agressor was NATO that instigated a coup with the fascists as proxy.
