There are a few reasons why I prefer this site to search for when I have a song lyric stuck in my head:
-
you can filter by decade (starting at the year 1900)
-
you can filter by artist
-
search results are for the exact string that you input (except for when there are no results for the exact string and it shows similar results)
-
it’s not bogged down by ads, so you can read the site and it shouldn’t crash
Other sites I’ve tried fall short in one or more of the above ways.
Downsides of this site:
-
“Load More Results” doesn’t always work. I suggest refreshing the page each time you update your search parameters to avoid this bug.
-
Filtering by artist name also includes artists whose name includes the name you typed (ex. if you filter for “Genesis”, you will get results for “Domo Genesis” as well). You also can’t do one search for multiple artists or for a specific vocalist who appears in multiple groups.
-
Rarely, there will be catalog errors. A song might be missing from their database; the art, album, or artist might be wrong; the decade might be listed wrong; or the wrong lyrics could be under the wrong title. If it seems like this is the case for what you’re searching for, try using Google or a similar search engine and including the lyric in quotes and whatever info you’ve been able to gain from this site as a plan B.
-
Search results being exact string search means you may have to try spelling variations of the lyric. Ex. “colour” instead of “color”, or “musta” instead of “must have”
