I looked at the feddit community list, and I can see communities (4-5 of the same name). When I search in my jerboa app, nothing shows up. Am I doing something wrong?
How are you searching in jerboa? It’s possible it’s just a bug there. Or it’s possible jerboa doesn’t actually trigger the server to look for federated communities correctly
It does not. Jerboa can only find already federated communities. If your instance hasn’t federated a com yet, you need search and sub to its exact name in a browser. This will trigger federation for that sub to your instance, and after that, others on your instance will be able to find it. (Even in Jerboa)
By clicking search on the bottom bar, and typing it in there. Maybe that’s the wrong way to do it? Not sure…
I don’t have a solution to offer, but I am using the same app, same method, and had the same issue. I’m thinking it might be a bug in the app because it isn’t consistent in how it’s not working for me.
Use the left panel and click on /all, so I can see everything
That’s only all the things that the instance knows about. That other people have already searched for
There was a brand new community I was trying to add and I couldn’t find it through Jeroba but I was able to find it on my instance website. Once I added it I could see it and search for it in Jeroba. I don’t think Jeroba can search other instances for communities that are not already being subscribed by at least one person from your instance.
If you’re just searching for the name and you’re not already federated, it won’t work. Copy the URL to the community from feddit and paste it into the search bar. It might not work the first time; it’ll need at least a few seconds to sync up properly and then you can search again.
If jerboa search doesn’t work, search for it on your instances website.
Still confused… so now I’m subscribed to another community. I need to switch my instance now to view and post on those? Now it looks like I have two instances and have to switch back and forth…
